Hamster Hacks

Not everybody has art supplies and a ton of dice on them at all times. For those of you who do, kudos. For the rest of us, here are some hacks to play Two Hamsters Enter with nothing more than your phone and your fighting spirit.

Rules

If creating an itch account just to download Two Hamsters Enter is a barrier to entry for a friend of yours, just share your copy of the PDF using Dropbox, Discord, Google Docs, or something similar.

Alternatively, if one of you is at least loosely familiar with the rules, that should be enough to walk a friend through their first game. I mean, what could go wrong?

Coordination

If you’re satisfied with play-by-post (PBP) or play-by-text (PBT), you could coordinate your game using just about anything on the app store, but text messages, Discord, and Facebook Messenger stand out as as some of the best.

If you want to coordinate a game using video, Face Time, Duo, WebEx, and Zoom will work in a pinch. In general, if it’s good enough for work or school, it’s good enough for Two Hamsters Enter.

Drawing

Most notekeeping apps give you an option to draw notes, and you can do so with your finger in the event that you don’t have a stylus. Even if you can’t save to your phone, you can always take a screenshot.

Dice Rolling

Google’s “Roll dice” option makes it easy to roll any number of D4s, D6s, D8s, D10s, D12s, and D20s. It also has a customizable di that you can use for the D100. Best of all, you can type “Roll 1d100” and Google will do the work for you.

If you’re anti-Google, Random.org works as well. A D6 is just a random number between 1 and 6, after all.

Let us know what apps you use to streamline your online gaming experience. You never know when something obvious to you is the solution someone else didn’t think to look for.
